One of my favorite sub joints ever, and it's minutes from the beach. I recommend the Peruvian or the Ham Jam. With extra Peruvian sauce of course.

I go back and forth on this place. I love that the subs are always pressed. But I don't always love the service or the options. Gotta be in the mood for it. Ah! And I will admit the Peruvian sauce is on point!

Angie's Subs is its own breed of restaurant. To me it is a place that defines Jacksonville beach and isn't overly concerned with what you think about its weirdness. Take time to read random signs and notes posted all around. You'll get a good laugh. If you've never been and even like the ingredients in the Peruvian a little bit - GET IT. A Peruvian isn't something I would get at any other sub shop - but it's just different here. Between every few bites dowse it in more Peruvian sauce. This is an experience that can't be replicated elsewhere. Final note: I know the place is unique and an after the beach destination - but a deep clean wouldn't hurt. This is the only reason I can't get to 5 stars.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE sandwich shop. Bread is toasted to perfection and that Peruvian sauce is a must on any sandwich you get! The atmosphere is so Jax Beach and never disappoints.

We enjoy coming to this place when we visit Jax. It is a cool little place with random decorations and seating arrangements, but that adds to the charm. The staff is always very friendly, and the food is delicious. I ordered the Peruvian sub, and make sure you drench it in their Peruvian sauce. The sauce is really good, and I even bought a bottle to take home for $5. They also have good sweet tea. Sandwiches arent huge, but they are very good. It does get very crowded here during lunch, so be aware of that.

Quick Summary: Really good flavors and an eclectic dining room. Great place to go to grab a bite with the family! My friends took me here as a local favorite for lunch while I was visiting. While they offer a variety of fillings and toppings and will cater to your specific desires; their specialty are combinations that they've come up with on their own, including one with fritos! I went with "My Wife Kicked Me Out", which was a delectable combination, and when you add some hot sauce... ooh it makes for a great kicker. The bread is excellently toasted, lightly crispy without being too hard. The dining room is a whole other experience... I'm not sure if no two chairs matched but definitely no dining set matched. It made for a fun and whimsical ambiance. Combine the variety of sandwich options and the fun ambiance, it's a formula for a carefree meal with the family!

How does a sandwich shop stand out in a literal sea of other sandwich shops? How does it stand the test of time year in and year out? Two things: Tasty food and community involvement. If you pass by the shop, you'll notice almost everyday they change the sign to either a birthday shout out or a local event. It might now seem like a lot but to me it shows that they stay active in current events and actually care enough to make it known. The decor in here is very.... homely. Mounted deer heads, vintage jag posters, and customer of the month photos from years ago all greet when you walk past the " UM... OPEN" neon sign. All of this can be a bit confusing if it's your first time here. Don't fret, the staff is friendly and more than willing to explain anything on the menu. Just file through the line at the counter, get your chips and sweet tea, and pony up at one of the mismatched tables. They smoke a lot of the meats they put on the sandwiches. If I'm hungry and see in passing that the big smoker is going, I know something good is on the menu. Personally, when they have the french dip that's all I'll get. Otherwise it's the Peruvian. Hands down, my favorite. They can be a bit slow sometimes when it's busy. I assume it's because all the subs are toasted and the oven is the choke point. Luckily there's so much to look at in the shop, you'll hardly notice. Just keep an ear out because they walk all the sandwiches to you calling your name.

When we moved here three years ago we were so excited to try Angie's. All of us had heard about it from the Food Network and other T.V. shows, but when we got there it wasn't at all what we expected. First off it's very hard to figure out which door you should go in and where you should order. No one was very friendly once we got in there. So we ordered what seemed to be their staple sandwich and once we received it, we weren't too impressed. I am not sure what's with the hype, but this place was mediocre at best. I really have had much better subs and we won't be back.

The place to go for subs in Jacksonville beach. They are a bit pricey though...$24 for two subs and chips. I just don't remember them being that expensive in the past. I always get chicken salad on toasted wheat sub. The chicken salad is yummy cause it has grapes, onions, and celery for crunch and white meat cubed chicken breast. They are busy at lunch! Plenty of parking though.

I'm not sure how I've lived in Jacksonville for as long as I have and NOT been to Angie's yet! A Jax Beach mainstay, I finally had the chance to stop by for lunch. We ordered a Peruvian (we were told to just not bother coming home unless we tried it) and "My Wife Kicked Me Out". First off, the ambiance in this place is killer. I love the tongue-in-cheek signs (check out the pics in the photo area) and the overall "spirit" of all the employees. Hootin' and hollerin' in the sub prep area, it really crated the impression that here are a bunch of people who actually like to come to work! Show your appreciation by leaving a tip and they'll ring the bell for you! The subs were thoroughly OK, and thus the three stars. They weren't bad, but just OK. The "my wife" features smoked chicken, sliced turkey, and "spicy ranch" sauce. I found the bread to be really dry, and though I also ordered oil and vinegar on my sub in addition to the ranch, it was still a really dry sub overall. The smoke on the chicken was a bit overpowering, where I couldn't really taste the turkey or the spicy ranch on the sandwich much at all. The "Peruv" was yummy, featuring ham, genoa salami, bacon, Italian sausage, provolone, Peruvian sauce. The bread was still pretty dry, but lets not lie, I now understand the fuss about peruv sauce! Let's face it, the bread is just a vehicle for the sauce! Duuuuuh! So I'm lovin' the 'tude of this place, and look forward to trying some other menu selections (and maybe a wrap instead of sub). Most importantly, I'll be sure to dine in for better peruv sauce access!

Really cool hip vibe at this one of a kind sub shop. Want to know where the locals go? Well, you are there. If you come during thte week, the line will begin at the door, but don't let that deter you, it moves quyickly and you can get tips on ordering from other people in line. My son always gets the Tuna Melt, which he swears by, while my choice is usually the Peruvian. However, on my last visit I went out of my comfort zone and tried the Jack Del Rio and was very pleasantly surprised. They have a whole wall filled with chips, but you should bypass those in favor of the homemade deviled eggs, sweet tea and banana pudding. Those three items are worth the visit alone. By the time lunch ends, you will be local, so put on your board shorts and get ready to surf. Gnarly.

Im trying to give it 3 1/2 stars but couldn't quite get it. Wonderful Peruvian sandwich, their number one seller. Filled with provolone cheese, salami, Italian salami, their special sauce, you name it, its got it! The Peruvian sauce was excellent! Morgan I have to say our palates are different. I also like all of this strange things that they had around to look at. It added to the beaches image.

It's hard to drive by Angie's and not start craving one of their subs. I'm a big fan of toasted subs, and they have a way of serving a perfectly crisp sandwich each and every time I've ordered one. Besides the fresh bread, the fillings aren't half bad either - each sub is filled with tons of meat, cheese and additional toppings (go for the knick knack if you like more crunch to your sub, totally worth it). If it's your first time ordering, stay to eat instead of taking your sub to go. The decor is eclectic (sometimes questionable) and fun to check out while you're catching up with friends. The staff is super friendly too, always laidback and having fun but still courteous and quick with your order. I'm a Sweet Teddy person myself (a mix of roast beef and turkey, bacon, provolone cheese and a helping of Peruvian sauce), but I don't mind going for the Del Rio (turkey, roast beef, bacon, provolone, mushrooms, BBQ Fritos and spicy ranch) or the classic Peruvian (ham, genoa salami, bacon, Italian sausage, provolone and Peruvian sauce) if I'm looking to switch up my choices. One last tip - you've gotta try the sweet tea, they have a 20 gallon tub of it at all times for a reason.

  • Valerie W.

The Peruvian and the sweet tea are both perfect. Although the tea is huge, the sandwich really isn't. $10 for both seemed a bit much for a after beach late lunch. The Peruvian is really the best drenched in more peruvian sauce!!! Great local sub shop!

  • Tyler G.

This place is a great lunch spot. Interesting decor and often crowded during lunch hours but always consistent! The Peruvian sauce takes this place from 4 stars to 5. The sandwiches are great and I have had several of them all to my liking. You should also try their brownie, it rocks!

I worked for a church nearby for 6 years. We made an effort to get lunch here every two or so weeks. The lunch crowd is CRAZY! I suggest calling ahead with your order. Just come in, pay, and get a seat. If you decide not to , don't get discouraged - I've waited maybe under 15 minutes when it was super busy. It's worth the wait. I haven't had a sub that I haven't enjoyed. I will get a jack del rio or chicken salad typically - depending on my mood. Most subs come toasted which is spiffy. The Peruvian sauce on the table is awesome. They may have the best sweet tea in Jax. I recently took my wife there for dinner for the first time. The dinner crowd is definitely less heavy than the lunch crowd. My wife and I shared the fries. They were OK , not life changing. I wish I would of ordered the potato salad.... Next time perhaps. Great place, clean, priced appropriately, locally opened. Will continue to give them my business.

Everything is good here, if u want the daily special u need to get here early as it runs out. With that being said everything here is awesome and the Peruvian and the hot Peruvian are good on everything the kids and I pour it on all our food. Lately they have had a KALE coleslaw that is out of this world.

During my four years at UNF, this place was a post-beach-day staple for my boyfriend & our friends. And now that I've been back three years later, with my 54-year-old executive chef dad, I'm thinking my enjoyment had a lot to do with the time and the company. Angie's Subs isn't a bad place to eat. It's just...it's kind of mediocre. My dad ordered their signature Peruvian sub and had a hard time finding the Peruvian sauce. He also said the lunchmeat was cut too thick, "a rookie mistake", in his words. As for me, my meatball sub made the wheat bread soggy. I also remembered the meatballs having more flavor. But there's pluses. The sweet tea, for one, is top-notch. I enjoy the casual, kitschy atmosphere, but I'm still in my twenties; my dad thought it was "divey" and trying too hard. So maybe that bit of Angie's wasn't meant for the older crowd. Postscript: we're from Philadelphia, where we call our subs "hoagies". Words can't describe the looks we got from the cashier when we ordered two hoagies. You'd think that if you're in the business, you'd know the alternate lingo. But now I'm being nitpicky.

Delicious subs, a must stop by if visiting Jacksonville, have gone every time I go to town usually get the Cuban sandwich.

Best subs on the beachside. The Peruvian is my favorite. Gotta love their sweet tea. I love their decor. Always something new to look at!

One of the hyped places in Jax Beach. Dirty, rude staff and bad food. Chips I got was expired 6 months ago. Tables were sticky, garbage bucket they put the ice tea in had mold around. They hang everything they found including a red sock with a sign asking "whose sock is this?". It actually amazed me how people hype it up as best Subs in Jax?

  • Jaime C.

This place was awesome when I was a kid and remains awesome now. Because they are so awesome, yes, your wait time could be a while. I highly recommend (much like the staff does) that you call ahead. Especially if you're in a hurry. They get worked over with business, therefore they are not rude staff, simply, in a hurry to get everyone what they want. So during a rush they may not be able to give you long winded attention. They play fun music, have a great chip selection, show great appreciation when you tip, and have the best sweet tea in all of jax bch.

  • Whitney A.

I love Angie's! I always get the Peruvian and make sure I put extra Peruvian sauce on it. Can't have a sub without that sauce it's so good. My boyfriend also gets the Peruvian. Every time I am on that side of town this is my go to place for a sub.

    (5)
  • Adriana T.

I had a Peruvian sandwich today and it was amazing! I called and ordered it prior to getting arriving they told me 10min. I arrived 15 min later and my food was ready, bread was toasty and warm. I've read a few reviews saying that the bread was dry or that it wasn't fresh but I've never had that problem. Like I said, I had a sub today and the bread was fresh. I love Angie's subs. I buy the Peruvian sauce and use to to season chicken when I cook at home sometimes and it's amazing. You can use it for many things not just for subs.

This Valentine's Day I hosted a party called "SHOT THROUGH THE HEART!" The plan was dinner at Angie's Subs and then going next door for laser tagging at Adventure Landing with a giant group of friends! (It is a truth universally known that married couples and single friends will be free that night ;p) Angie's was the PERFECT spot on Valentine's Day because the random cluttered signage in the revamped convenience store doesn't convey romance to most couples and so, "Let the royal rumpus start!" I always order the "Sweet Teddy T" sub. Roast beef, turkey, bacon, and Peruvian sauce on a soft, airy bun that is lightly toasted until the provolone cheese melts. The sweet Peruvian sauce is in LARGE part of what makes Angie's so popular! It's so addicting that they have bottles of Peruvian sauce on the tables when you dine and you can happily drown your entire order in it! [INSIDERS TIP: Order the sandwich "Crunchy" and you'll be happily surprised at how the Fritos adds a delightful salty texture to your meal! According to my husband, the sweet tea is also killer.] As always, my Sweet Teddy T was lusciously good! My entire party thoroughly enjoyed their meal and fought over the Peruvian sauce quite loudly. We had a wonderful time causing a ruckus, ragging on each other, and dipping every food item we could find in the Peruvian sauce. It was a romantic night had by all. If a restaurant jam packed with tacky signs and witty one liners it doesn't make you swoon, rest assured I have the solution! Angie's has an efficient call ahead service so you can bypass the crowd of this VERY popular lunch spot. Take your TO GO order and have picnic on the beach. Just make sure you purchase your own Peruvian sauce to take with you. I've heard it has quite the aphrodisiac effect.

Best subs in jax hands down. Been coming here many years. I made beef jerky w the Peruvian sauce as a marinade and it was amazing.

  • Jay G.

Mediocre. I tried this place for the first time on Saturday. For as long as I've lived here at the beach and right across the bridge before that for some reason I've never brought myself to try Angies. Well it turns out I wasn't missing much. Bread wasn't that fresh. Turkey was practically non existent. Skimped lettuce. Thin and undercooked bacon strips. Had olives on it. Didn't ask for olives. I'd like to say that this was an isolated experience and that I should give them another chance but since there are so many other options at the beach I won't be coming back.

Angies is the Best. Sweet Teddy T with lots of peruvian. yummm. Their brownies and Banana pudding are also amazing. Awesome local place.

Best subs in town! They have many unique subs with fritolays that they are known for. I have never tried them but they have a very delicious sauce (the Peruvian sauce) they put on many of their subs. They also have 2 of their own hot sauces that I enjoy very much. Sometimes you may have to wait a bit even though it seems like no one is there. Worth.The.Wait. or you can call ahead! They have just about any kind of chip imaginable too!

  • Tim G.

Angie's is a staple of Jax Beach, for good reason. It's hard to go wrong with a Peruvian or a Del Rio paired with a bag of chips and a cup of sweet tea. It makes me hungry just typing that. You'll also enjoy the eclectic mix of random furniture and decor around the restaurant, it makes for a unique experience.

Very good locally owned place. Limited selection for vegetarians. The veggie sub was still delicious! Unfortunately the bread was delicious but cut up my mouth because of its texture.

It's worth it to go here just for the cheeky signs and funky decor that they have all over the damn place. The trash can has a sign taped on it that says "SUGGESTION BOX" :) The subs were pretty good but not FANTASTIC like many reviewers have said, but I think that's because I lived in New Orleans for four years.. My biggest caveat with it was that my date and I came in at 8: 15 - they close at 9 - and were the only people in the place. We each ordered a sub. And then waited for almost HALF AN HOUR. What could they have been doing?! We were the only customers!!!! Other than that, great divey beach find with a lot of spunk and character. I don't live in Jax but my friend that does recommended this place to me and I in turn passed on the knowledge to my friends who now live in Jax.

Great subs. Excellent tea. The jack Del Rio sub is great. I would give it 5 stars if they cleaned the inside up a bit, but everything else is wonderful!

A lady friend and I went to Angies Subs (sandwich shop) yesterday afternoon. This (stupider than a rock) kid (an employee) was wiping down the tables across, behind, and in front of us.Because of this my lady friend and I were not getting any privacy what so ever!! Pissed me off to high hell.Again, the place was (all but) empty. There were plenty of other table he could have been wiping down. I wanted to pimp slap this dipshit!!! This idiot was wearing a green (Philadelphia) eagles hat. Some people are just stupid!!!

  • Drew A.

Angie's is a Jax Beach staple. The locals swear by it which says volumes about them. Even though I don't live in Jax anymore, I find myself daydreaming of an Angie's sub drenched in their Peruvian sauce. Brought two bottles back with me to Memphis, TN!!!

  • Chris P.

Try the Peruvian! We went on Friday for lunch and the place was packed. We ordered right away with no wait and proceeded to pay at the door way to the seating area. Don't forget to try the sweet tea is served from the LARGEST tub in the world, it must hold 20 gallons literally. The Peruvian is the #1 Seller- Served with Ham, Genoa salami, bacon, Italian sausage, provolone. The kitchen preparation method is having the sub broiled and slightly toasting. The result is a killer half crisp of the meats, and bread. The seating area is eclectic with various beach castaways and other vintage objects. Angies is a local hotspot with a strong following fall in line and go there soon.

Went here for a fundraiser. Eccentric decor lines the walls of the establishment. Old in everyway, but clean and the employees were very friendly. If you want a legendary local place with a cool vibe, check it out. (I'm holding off on a 4th star due to the fact that the food we ate isn't what's served on the menu.)

  • Becky H.

I love grabbing a bite at Angies Subs. I am a Del Rio fan but if you havn't tried the Peruvian, get it!. Angie's is the best place to meet up with friends and just catch up over a good meal. The decor is entertaining and great conversation starters. Order at one end, pay in the middle, then have a seat at the end and they will bring your sandwich out to you, by calling your name (or whatever name you give them :P )

My boyfriend and I just moved to Jacksonville and were looking for a good sub. Glad the reviews on here were so great because we are so happy we found angies. My boyfriend had the Peruvian with the "knick knack" and raved about it. I had the C&H classic and it was one of the best subs I've ever had! Love the ambiance and all the mismatched furniture too! We will definitely be back :)

Angies is a Jax Beach institution for a reason. Is it the Peruvian sauce? The 20-gallon tub of sweet tea? The fritos on sandwiches? I'd say it's all of the above. This place just serves a rockin' sub. I've had the Jack del Rio, the Peruvian, and the Chicken Salad and I loved all three. I'm especially down with a place that puts fruit in their chicken salad.. that's what's up! The kitchy atmosphere of Angies also earns major points from me. A hodgepodge of furniture and decorations meets your eyes as you search for a table in the multi-level dining area. Every single table and chair looks like it was donated from somebody's grandparents house, so nothing matches, and it's awesome! On each table you'll find a gargantuan squeeze bottle of Peruvian sauce, which I've permanently shortened to just "the peruv." If you haven't had this heavenly stuff you are majorly missing out! Seriously, I give bottles of this as Christmas presents it's so good. Garlicky, sweet, spicy, tangy, and always golden brown; put it on your chips, your sub, your fingers, whatever! Just eat it. Another favorite point of Angies? Every napkin holder in the place has the WEIRDEST stories inserted into both sides. Seriously....the weirdest. Like "The bottle of ketchup was feeling sad today. Why would a bottle of ketchup feel sad? Who knows, it could be a chemical imbalance or maybe his parents didn't hug him enough. These things happen. You'd be better off to just accept them and stop asking so many questions. Anyways, the mustard was in a real mean mood and decided she was going to have it out with ketchup once and for all...etc." Oh my god, who writes this stuff!? They should work for Yelp! Maximum entertainment while munching. Basically, I just always have a good experience at Angies. I love the subs, I love the toasty bread, I love the optional Southern style sides of deviled eggs or nana pudding. It seems like everyone at the beach has worked here at some point in their lives. It's just a great local spot!

    (4)
  • Morgan H.

So overrated! I really don't understand why people say such goods things about it. I went there one time and I would never go back!

    (1)
  • Liz M.

Subs are ALL about the bread! Angie's makes their own. Thin crispy crust yet soft inside! It doesnt over take your sandwich. Their "secret" Peruvian sauce adds another flavor train experience. Make it (your sub) crunchy (with fritos) or add niknak (cole slaw) or do both. They make their sweet tea in VATS not gallons. Most employees are teenagers styled by the local surfer area. Order at the counter to the left of the store - pay at the counter nearest the dining room - then seat yourself at one of the eclectic tables/high tops and wait til they call your name. The decor looks like the spoils of a local rummage sale and witty signs don the walls, napkin holders and front signage. Angie's is extremely consistent with their taste - same deliciousness each time we visit! An added bonus you can get a cold beer here!

I've never had a better sub in all my life. And the sauce, what is that sauce!!!!??? You wait a bit for the sub to come out, but it is wonderful. The place is jumping too! Decor was, er... interesting. You'd have to see it to understand what I mean.

  • Julian C.

I don't like the new changes in sandwich size and price. You're getting less but spending more. Not cool. However it is delicious and always a fun environment. People are extremely nice and they usually dish out new flavors often.

I gave this place my final try yesterday and I have officially made my mind up that it's just not that good. I have tried the peruvian, the jack del rio, and the chicken salad and all are very bland and hardly no flavor at all. Each time I have felt really sick afterwards. The place just doesn't seem very clean. I don't understand what all the hype is about. I would much rather have firehouse subs. BUT THE SWEET TEA IS GOOD... People are not lying about that.

A beaches staple. This is the perfect place to go when you need a quick bite on your way to the beach. It's definitely a place with character and they're typically pretty quick, even when crowded. Their known for the Peruvian sub - which incidentally goes perfectly with the peruvian sauce on the table.

Best sandwich in Jax - hands down. Worth the trip if your in jax. you order, the prep and toast and bring it out to you. love the huge cups for drinks and decor of the place. and any place with TVs all over are great. Like the 80s playlist thru the PA. And of course, gotta love the peruvian sauce. i can put that joint on any sandwich and it'll be good. The only thing is, the toast was burnt a little bit and it took quite a while. other than that, good job ANGIE'S!!

  • Eric H.

Was brought here by a local who described this place as "a hidden gem". She was right. Although it has a pretty funky and humorous atmosphere to it, the sandwiches are to be taken seriously. They are MOUTH WATERING good. The Peruvian is the way to go, by all means. The homemade sweet tea is also a major selling point. Honestly one of the best subs I've ever had.

I hadn't heard of Angie's Subs until this week. My neighbor called excitedly up and said we had to go check this place out as the owner was just on the national news due to some rather controversial signage out on the frontage of the restaurant. What could possibly have been posted that would cause such media exposure you ask? Here is what the sign read: "A Bible Thumpin' Gun Totin' Capitalist Pig Owns This Joint" Holy Press Conference!!! Well, with that, I happily jumped into the car to check this joint out. And let me just tell you, the frontage of this restaurant certainly could have the propensity to off put many a patron. But when I got inside I was astounded in the best possible way. The walls and tables in this place are covered with something! I mean anything! Hilarious handmade signs, graffiti galore, stuffed boar's heads, televisions, pictures, etc. If I had spent 5 hours in this hole in the wall I wouldn't have been able to read or look at all of the items noted and pictured. And to my surprise, this unassuming place was packed with people. There was so much visual distraction when I made it up to the ordering counter, I couldn't even focus on the menu. So I simply asked the exuberant college boys what did they recommend. In singsong unison they said the Jack Del Rio Grande Sub. Good enough for me! A smiling gentleman walked toward the college kids to peek at the register I presume after I had ordered. And speculating this may be the owner I said, "Wow, what a great joint!" The man's smile widened and very humbly said thank you. After his response I inquired if in fact he was the owner and he said, "Yes. I am Ed." Happy I had actually met the man of the hour, I then waded through the chattering crowd and sat at a table with some accompanying friends. Each one of our chairs was obviously acquired from Goodwill somewhere. The table next to us had a backseat obviously removed from a van as part of their seating arrangement. This random seating just added to the charm of this place. Our table, walls and even napkin holder was covered in patron's comments and ironic thoughts of the moment. I just loved the ambiance here. One of the servers called out our name, we raised our hand and the subs were brought to the table. Refreshingly, the server was funny and talkative. My neighbor said he had seen the press coverage and the server said he was going to have the owner come over and chat with us. Really? I mean this place was incredibly busy. And sure enough the smiling owner Ed popped over. I half expected based on the signage out front for this guy to be a red necked, t-shirt wearing something or another and in fact he was the complete opposite. Ironically, it ended up that he knew one of our neighbors who has undergone some pretty serious medical procedures recently. (Small world indeed). So Ed went in back and made a sub on the house for us to take back for our recuperating neighbor to enjoy. Seriously...How cool is that??? So let me get to the actual subs. The Jack Del Rio was a great pick as it was DELISH! It was warm, came on a slightly crispy but not hard hoagie bun, had thinly sliced turkey, bacon, mushrooms, good flavored roast beef, Provolone and crazy good spicy ranch and yes...Fritos. Yes, Fritos layered the bottom portion of the tasty sandwich. The sub was great. Jacksonville needs more restaurants like this one. Really excited customer service thus perpetuates really excited customers. The food was wonderful and, despite the controversial signage, Angie's has a really great owner! Definitely 5 Star Kudos to Angies Subs!

Angie's is an institution at Jax Beach that is a favorite of townies and tourists alike. If you can deal with a wait at primo lunch hours it is definitely worth your time. Any of the menu options are pretty tasty, but here's a little tip that you won't find on the menu: Ask for your sub "crunchy" and they'll throw BBQ Frito chips on it. It's money. Try it. And you've got to drench every bite in the Peruvian sauce that they place at every table; it just completes the sub.

First, call your order in ahead. Is a must. Second, enjoy the best oven toasted sub you'll ever get anywhere.

Awesome food. Great service. The manager was the most accomodating I have ever encountered at a "sandwich shop" this is out of the ordinary and top quality!!

Well I knew I had to go in when I saw a poster board hanging in the dining room with one dirty sock on it and something written like- does anyone know where the other one is. I was entertained by the down home decor immensely. People say Jacksonville has no character Angies is proof that that just isn't true. I am taking off a star because although the place is relatively cheap I didn't feel you got a lot for the money. Not a lot of meat on the subs. Like everyone else said the Sweet Tea and Peruvian Sauce are what makes this place great. I am taking off the other star simply because of the words BAUCHMAN that we noticed on a sign after we had eaten. These people are tea partiers and I wouldn't normally go back to a place like this. However, I might just have to bring my out of town guests to this off the wall place.

Jacksonville's little secret. My best friend took me here and I was hooked. Del Rio + Toasted Wheat Bread + Housemade Peruvian sauce. This place is an eclectic hodgepodge of funky furniture mismatched tables and walls covered in customer graffiti, a.k.a my kind of place. It gets really packed here for lunch, the sweet tea is amazing. It's a small business "I do it my way" attitude and I frickin love it. It definitely isn't short on character and personal style. Next time I find myself in JAX this will be the first place I go to. ***The Peruvian sauce is like crack, so addicting I practically drenched my sandwich in that stuff.

If you live at the Beach, then you already know about Angies so this review is for everyone else. This place is a hollowed out convenience store that is worth the drive. However, this place, like any other place in the whole world is not worth the traffic and the waiting. That said, come here at a weird time like a Saturday or after 4 on weekdays and you will leave happy. The subs are more like torpedoes than the usual firehouse, larrys, subway fanfare. The bread is crispy and the meat is hot. The sauce they have on the table is delicious especially when mixed with the hot sauce. Not a bad way to spend 7 bucks. My favorite thing about Angies is that the sweet tea comes out of a refrigerator sized self dispensing container. I love the south!

This place is a real gem! It's on my list of places that add a desirable uniqueness to Jacksonville. You can get a sandwich anywhere, but Angie's is different enough to be fun. The dressings and sauces they make in-house set them apart from the pack, as well. I love the Peruvian! And be sure to try your sandwich crunchy, with corn chips in it! Their dining room is full of things that hold your attention and make you grin. The servers are friendly and helpful, with just the right amount of attitude to make eating there fun. The owner is entertainingly eccentric and down to earth. If you become a regular, there's a chance you'll be mentioned in a message on the billboard sign out front :). The clientele seem to absorb the positive vibe from this place, and even in busy lunch times, most people seem to be enjoying the jovial and laid back atmosphere. Totally agree about calling in your order, as the line at lunch time can get really long. Also, consider sending a scouting party to grab a table before the dining room gets completely packed.

Have you ever seen Best Thing I Ever Ate? It's on the Food Network- and it's basically highly popular chefs talking about the best food they've ever had. Genius, I know. Anyways, one episode was titled Obsessions, which made me question what is my food obsession. Then it hit me upside the head with a huge, resounding "DUH!" The Jack Del Rio at Angies Subs is one of my most favorite meals in the entire world. I have been going to Angies for at least 6 or 7 years, and for the first time, last week, I ordered The Peruvian (their bestseller). No surprise, it was delicious. But I went back and ordered the JDR two days later. Here's how a typical Angies sub ordering experience goes: Walk in, call in, whichever you prefer. Worker- do you know what you want? Me- yeah, i'll have the 7" jack del rio, all the way, on wheat Worker- thats all? Me- yep Worker- name? Me- Megan B. (always give your last initial when placing your order) then, proceed to the right where you will either immediately hit a line or the cashier counter. when prompted, give your name. drinks are self serve- so be sure to get a cup (which only comes in one size: huge). get chips if you want- i always opt for a brownie. i am a huge brownie fan and these are top notch. pay, tip and move to the next room where immediately to your left you can get your beverage of choice. if you even remotely like sweet tea- get it. angies is totally known for their delicious tea- which is evident by the giant drum filled with tea. if you are doing take out, take a seat near the cashier and wait for your name to be called. don't forget to either get a side (or 5) of peruvian sauce or open it up and drown your sandwich before you leave. if you are eating there: grab a folio weekly to pass the time while you wait for your sub, they are right past the drinks. now, this is where some people might get intimidated, if you weren't already. pick where you are going to sit. if it's crowded you may have to wait around for someone to leave. but don't fret my pets, you'll be seated soon enough. i personally like to go to the very back which is perfect for people watching. you may notice that every table has giant bottles of sauce. this is Peruvian sauce and it is your friend. if you like spicy, the smaller red one is your buddy. when you hear your name called raise your hand and your sub will be brought to you. open that bad boy up and prepare yourself. people have different dipping preferences. I have friends that open their sub and put on the peruvian, others that make a little pool on their sub wrapper paper. Personally? I put some peruvian on my sandwich after every bite, which means that bottle always needs to be on hand. If you have another drizzler on hand, either share or rather just grab another bottle from a nearby table. Lastly, enjoy. Tips & tricks: -always order your sub "crunchy" or "extra crunchy". this means they will add bbq fritos to your 'wich. it's awesome. TRUST ME -you wanna sample a sub or are maybe not so hungry? get a kids sub. -you want wheat? gotta ask for it. same for a wrap -there are various board games around in case you are in the mood

Went on saturday at 1pm first mistake. Tried to be patient with the 30 minute wait for my food. The food runner only offered a brownie after they got both subs wrong . The manager came over and gave a $5 giftcard . subs were not worth the wait. Burnt one and didn't even cut it in half right . It was cut 1/3 and 2/3. I was disappointed in the service and food . I know this is a beach institution and has been around since I was a kid but have good food at least. The organization sucked. There were two entrances and you couldn't tell where to go to order. No flow from the order taking to paying. The decor is kinda sad too. I gave the $5 gift card to my daughter and I won't go back. I should have went Jimmy John, Publix or Subway, at least my wait time wouldn't have been so long.

I live in Detroit but my cousin Joey brings me here every time I'm in town and it is by far the best sub ever created on this planet. The jack del rio and the C&H special are the reasons why I believe in God. Also, The sweet tea has been said to give special powers and opens the gates of heaven to anyone who taste it. BATVAI Amen.

So, we all know hyped-up local joints. Sometimes we try it out and say, "I get it," and other times we say, "what's all the hype about?" I'm mixed on this one. It's got that quaint messed up feel that only a local could love, which I think is great. The only problem is that I didn't just sit down and talk with friends-I ate the food. The food's not bad, don't get me wrong before the Angie's cult sends me death threats, but it's nothing to rave about. I guess after all the hype from college and beach friends, the food itself was a bit of a letdown. Regardless of the quality of the food, however, Angie's is the sort of place you build a relationship with-the sort of place where you want to get to know the décor on the walls and in the tables, the sort of place where you want to have a favorite seat. For that, I can give Angie's a pass because, hey, you can always improve the food but you can't always create a place that belongs to us.

I've been to Angies Subs twice. My friends dragged me along with the promise of exceptional food. However, on both occasions I quickly succumbed to food poisoning shortly after consuming their products! I tried the chicken salad and tuna subs. I should've walked out the door after first entering. The place is filled with old eclectic furniture, but not in a cute way. It looks like they grabbed pieces from a junk yard or dump and brought them inside. The booth I sat in was sticky, like the table, and ripped to shreds. The food itself tasted rather bland. I can't understand what all the hype is about as there is nothing special to it. As for the Peruvian sauce, it is actually quite good, but the exact same product can be purchased from Publix and used at home. There is no need to come to Angies Subs unless you enjoy dining in filth and can appreciate the ensuing fun to be had from violent diarrhea.

I've always said Publix is better. My kids love this place, I just don't gt it. I think they need to focus more on the food and keep politics out of the equation.

I have been frequenting Angie's for around 12 years now and I used to love the place. I am partial to local dives and Angie's is a legend in Jax. Unfortunately, in the last few years the product has been getting steadily worse. The formerly stacked, perfectly toasted subs have been replaced by meager amounts of meat and toppings on usually overtoasted sub rolls. Living nearby and recalling the "good ol' days" I still frequent the shop hoping that the last sub I ordered was a blunder only to discover that it is now the norm. If you want a better product and local is your thing, hit up Sun Deli off 3rd St. in Jax Bch.

A sub with bbq fritos on it, I'm all in! Fun little beach sandwich shop with an owner that has a great sense of humor!! Sandwiches never disappoint, make sure you get it "crunchy"! The Peruvian sauce I swear I could drink that nectar straight!!

A business I love to support. Great atmosphere, friendly employees and tea sweet enough to put you in a coma for the rest of the day. My favorite visits are on Ham Jam and Chork day... I only wish they were more frequent (as there's no decent BBQ at the beach).

My favorite lunch spot. Period. Angies is definitely a lunch time must. Even townies who can break away from the 30min time cap venture here when possible. My advice, get here early or work through the lunch rush & wait till after 1 to eat cuz it gets crowded. The HamJam is my favorite (but it's a special so call ahead to see if it's on the menu for the day) but no matter what you get smother it with Peruvian sauce & wash it down with Ed's famous sweet tea & you'll be a happy camper. 5 stars all day long.

I had one of the worst experiences at Angie's. I am a Jacksonville native and always heard the most amazing things about this laid back sub joint. I decided on my lunch break (which is an hour) to get a sub to go and ended up returning to work hungry. The staff was too busy joking with one another to notice myself or the other patrons waiting to order, there was no direction of where to wait, and after 45 minutes of waiting I discovered upon rushing back to work that the sandwhich they gave me was the wrong one. I typically have no issue with restaurants and I'm very open minded to how difficult working a job that deals with the public can be. That being said, the sandwhich I ended up with was one I was not able to eat due to pregnancy. Be forwarned, this was a Thursday, so if you go make sure you have plenty of the time to wait for a sandwhich.

cool place for lunch, great hot sub. my gf had the peruvian sand. and it was great. they also have the peruvian sauce on all the tables to put on any sandwich, it tastes sort of like honey mustard sauce. I had the cuban, and while it does not resemble a real cuban sandwich in anyway, it was very good. and the prices are awesome. will definatly go back.

i would have given it 5 stars -- but its a little too 'hip' for me & its a little frustrating to find seats at times. in fact -- i went there with some friends & a girl got in my face about seating. i havent been back since. angies has amazing sweet tea. delicious pasta salad. oh the peruvian. free subs on your birthday. free drinks if its your first visit. its just a fun place. its nothing fancy & quite frankly -- a hole in the wall. i think it used to be a convenience store, but im sure happy it opened up. when i go back -- i think ill just grab food to go because trying to find seating with a baby will be frustrating. :( some people that go there dont seem to be the nicest or most considerate people, but i dont blame angies for that. :)

Don't let the outside fool you (or the inside decor for that matter), Angie's makes some mean subs that are delicious. I recommend ordering the Peruvian and grab a cold beer while you wait for the crew to make and toast your hoagie (sub). The atmosphere is laid back in a surfer meets thrift store way - but that's cool because this place is way better than any corporate sub shop. Trust me, you'll be back.

    (4)
  • Chris G.

Good, but not great. Had the Peruvian, wife had the turkey. Sandwiches were hot and toasty, but thin on meat. Flavor was good, but Firehouse is better. Probably will not be back as it is a 20 minute drive for us.

Do you like a local hang out? Well you'll love this place. It's a local beach place and the subs are amazing. The lines out the door must be a clue for those who drive by that it is a popular place to visit and the food must be somewhat good, right? Well, as a Jacksonville native, I was ashamed i didn't know about this place sooner. The sandwiches are creative and tasty. My parents enjoy the "dirty gringo" but I am a hardcore "Peruvian" fan. This sandwich is worth ordering at least once. Not only is it full of flavorful meats and sausage, but the "peruvian sauce," which is like a honey mustard, is amazing. It's a hot sub and you can even order it "crunchy," which is when they add BBQ fritos to your sandwich. Trust the big man, it's good. The sweet tea is in a huge vat and they need to make it like that because it is that addictive. It's not just good, it literally is addictive. This place is a must visit at least once every time I go home. Give it a shot, you won't be sorry. The only part that isn't fun is the wait if you get there during the lunch rush, so try to get there before noon.
